A unique opportunity to visit the iconic Herbert Minton Building, built in the 1850s as a School of Art for aspiring creatives in the pottery industry, and located opposite the Minton factory which stood on the site of the Sainsbury’s supermarket. Today the building houses the Redemption Community Hub for the Redeemed Christian Church of God, which was founded in Nigeria in 1952 and is present in around 190 nations of the world. Family fun activities will be available throughout the day and talks include Phil Rowley’s presentation on the Schools of Art in Stoke-on-Trent (see potteries.org.uk/hods2023-p3#schools). | ||

Longton’s buildings tell the industrial tale of the development of the area and the important role it played in the pottery industry. Local historian, Phil Rowley's route takes in landmarks and some of the remaining bottle ovens of Longton. An ideal way to learn about the town’s history. Beginning and ending at Gladstone Pottery Museum car park, the tour should take around an hour and a half. Co-ordinated by the Potteries Heritage Society. | ||

Explore Stoke-on-Trent as a Living Heritage City with a new trail between Stoke and Hanley. Stoke-on-Trent City Council is launching a new concept Heritage Trail for the city which will highlight heritage and history across the city. For this Heritage Open Days, we are launching the pilot trail which will take in sights along a walking route between Stoke and Hanley. This is a self-guided trail which can be accessed by downloading a map or by collecting one from a partner location along the route. There will be two online launches on each Saturday, to highlight the in-person trail so do check our online socials for further details. The self-guided trail can be completed at anytime. |

Come and see one of the finest examples of a living heritage art pottery today. Operating out of the original brick factory in Cobridge, complete with its own Grade II listed bottle oven, Museum and Heritage Visitor Centre, Moorcroft uses the distinctive slip-trailing methods pioneered by William Moorcroft at the end of the 19th century. This incredibly labour-intensive process produces colourful designs of intricacy, brilliance, and clarity in the Arts and Crafts tradition. Each day, we shall throw open our working factory doors and all our production departments will be available for you visit, as you take your time on a self-guided tour. The working factory will be open from 10.30am-2.30pm. In addition, until 4.30pm each day one of our designers will be with us to showcase their portfolio and new designs together with live demonstrations of our unique heritage skills. | ||

See the three bottle ovens known locally as Salt, Pepper and Vinegar at close quarters and learn about how the manufactured products were used in the local pottery industry. These three Flint calcination kilns were last fired in 1988 and the original underground workings are still available to view. Access is confined and therefore restricted. | ||

Join us for an informal early evening reception & drinks event at one of the city’s hidden gems! Visitors are invited to explore an eclectic mix of historic and contemporary tiles, exquisite technical (re)drawings and archive film. Guests will be able to meet and chat with artists Danny Callaghan and Craig Peebles; the two artists who have curated and created the exhibition. Visitors will also be able to get a glimpse behind the scenes of The Firing Line, a manufacturer that still produces ‘dust press’ tiles on site using 100 year old technology and traditional techniques. We hope you can join us for a special night on the tiles! Winkhill Mill is a working factory. It has steps and trip hazards. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for people who use wheelchairs. Visitors must take extra care on entry. Free on-street parking is available on Swan Street (unreserved). |
