Potteries Heritage Society has been chosen as one of only 15 civic societies to take part in a national pilot programme focusing on Community Rights. The programme is being co-ordinated by Civic Voice, is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and will cover the Community Right to Bid, Right to Challenge and Right to Build, as well as Neighbourhood Planning.
Civic Voice has an ambitious target to support groups to nominate 300 Assets of Community Value by the end of March and for the civic societies involved in the pilot to complete action plans.
PHS's Andy Perkin will be organising the programmes local events which will be open to other local civic societies and community groups, as well as our members. The main workshop will take place on the evening of 16th March at the Minton Centre in Hartshill* and will include presentations and a chance to ask questions about each of the Rights and Neighbourhood Planning, support with nominating assets of community value and guidance with action planning. The workshop will be free but places will be limited so booking is essential.
If you like to book your place or would like further information contact andy@potteries.org.uk.
We will also be arranging study tours in the preceding week to indentify potential Assets of Community Value. The first will take place on Thursday 12 March from 4pm - meet outside the Kings Hall on Kingsway. Further walkabouts will take place in Burslem and Newcastle over the weekend of 14 and 15 March. See here for details.
