On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August the Mill will be in steam from 12.30pm to 4.30pm with the engine starting on the hour. Entry to the museum and mill is £4 OR £6 to include a guided tour, under 16s free with a paying adult. The museum, with a display explaining Watt’s life and achievements, will be open and refreshments may be purchased in the tea room.This is part of a series of events celebrating the life of James Watt ‘The Father of the Industrial Revolution’ who died on 25thAugust 1819.
Watt's development of an efficient rotative steam engine powered factories from the late 1700s well into the 20th century allowing industry to progress and make the modern world.
The Etruria Industrial Museum is home to Jesse Shirley’s 1857 Bone and Flint Mill which is driven by a 1820s Watt pattern rotative beam engine. To commemorate his life three talks, a display and a weekend steaming of the engine and mill will take between 31st July and 4th August.
