Walking from the old Spode Factory site along the streets that housed the Spode factory workers. Hear stories of their lives and skills that made Spode and its famous blue and white pottery internationally instantly recognisable. The tour will start at the recently renovated Spode Museum, which is housed on the old Spode Factory site through the iconic red wrought iron gates. Visitors will first see a wide range of Spode pottery exhibited in the museum. The tour will start with the walking guide giving an overview of the history of Spode and the factory site, and its context within the potteries. The tour will continue along the streets, where visitors will learn about some of the men and women who worked for the Spode factory and other nearby potbanks. Each street will have a tale to tell of the residents, their skills and the challenges they faced on a daily basis working. Along the route there will be QR codes for visitors to scan and see images from the past and how the area has changed over time. Visitors will be taken to Stoke Minster, where the tour concludes, and have the opportunity join the Heritage Open Day and explore this historic building which is the final resting place for three generations of the Spode dynasty and Josiah Wedgewood.
