This year is the 50th anniversary of the reopening of the Caldon canal to traffic. As part of the celebration the 'The Golden Age of Canals', a film made in 2011 by David Parker for BBC4, will be screened in the Etruria Industrial Museum Canal Warehouse on 13th September 2024. The warehouse is located at the junction of the Trent and Mersey and Caldon canals, which were fully open in 1777 and 1778 respectively. Adjacent, is the preserved check office where tolls were collected when the canal was operating commercially. This may be seen by visitors. David was born in Tunstall and now lives in Bristol. The event will commence at 2.30pm with David introducing it and giving a short talk on its making. After the showing there will be time for questions and discussion before event finish at 4.30pm. Light refreshments will be available. Free parking off Etruria Vale Road. Booking is not required.
