Get exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the V&A Wedgwood Collection archives with a talk on Wedgwood's canal history. In July 1766, Josiah Wedgwood was given the honour of cutting the first sod of the Trent and Mersey Canal. This act was acknowledgement of the enormous role he had played in the promotion of the fledging canal network and highlights just how important the canals were in the movement of ceramics and the associated raw materials. This talk will explore the story of Wedgwood's involvement in this transportation revolution with an opportunity to see first-hand some of the associated material held in the V&A Wedgwood Collection's Archives.
